It’s probably getting old saying that the Internet is changing everything…but it is. And it continues to do at an astounding and thrilling speed.
Lots of times, these changes don’t seem so huge at first glance, but when you step back and consider the potential ramifications, it is kind of awesome.
Today’s case-in-point is an interview on beet.tv with Tammy Haddad, a one-time news producer for MSNBC. She is now pretty much freelance, and travels around with a handicam getting amazing scoops and stories. One big reason is that the little camera is so much less threatening than those monsters the “professionals” use.
Now that everyone is carrying (or could be carrying) what amounts to a news-gathering machine – especially with so many cell phones and digital cameras now shooting video – we are truly entering the first significant period of citizen journalism. And soon we will all be able to not only shoot the news as we see it, but to post it on the spot from where it is happening for all the world to see.
