Gossip Girl and CW to Attempt the Impossible

It’s being reported that, in some stunningly backwards thinking move, that the CW is going to “take Gossip Girl off the web” for five weeks in hopes that this will boost their TV viewership.

Ok, let’s just put aside how blindingly stupid it is to block your show from a platform your key demo lives on – even though someone should get fired for a decision this dumb.

The really mind-blowing sign that the CW is being run by luddites is that they think that can keep something “off the web.”  Do they have any idea how many sites, both through streaming and straight-up filesharing, provide a way to watch any known show right there on the computer?

All the CW is going to succeed at is to lose those who went to the CW online to some other site.  And it will have no impact on their Neilsons.
